Founders

Before his involvement with the Turks and Caicos government, Hon. Williams and his wife Althea were successful business owners here on Providenciales. Along with other key persons, the pair were instrumental and committed to the development of the Turks and Caicos AIDS Awareness Foundation. This fervor was fueled as the AIDS epidemic started to impact the Turks and Caicos; this included a family member’s diagnosis. The goal of the foundation was awareness and disease prevention through information dissemination.

The successful launch of the TCAAF lead to the establishment of several other foundations, including the Edward Gartland Youth Centre. The visionaries involved established the first teen oriented-facility in the TCI that provides a variety of positive, life-enhancing programs to help youth make healthy life decisions.

Chairman

A long-time member of our parent organization (the TCAAF – Turks and Caicos AIDS Awareness Foundation), Terry recently made the jump to the Board of Directors of the Youth Foundation as well. In addition to running Hemmingway’s, the restaurant attached to the Sands Grace Bay Resort, Terry works tirelessly to ensure the smooth operation of the Centre so that the youth can have the best experience possible.

For over 25 years, the Gartlands have been traveling to Provo as their home away from home. They have been touched by this country and have been extremely devoted to making the Turks and Caicos a better place. Aside from being honorary members of the TCAAF, they have a strong passion to help provide youth the opportunities they need to succeed in life. They always make themselves available and can often be seen scouting out the activities at the Centre.
